BACK with his first EP for Diffrent since 2017’s ‘Expat’, Mauoq opens up a can of psychedelic earworms ready to wriggle their way into your record box.
Leading us down the wormhole is the undulating ‘Sheworm’ and its sinuous dub vibe. ‘Millipede’ comes full of urgent whispers and scuttling percussion, swelling up into a monstrous glob of low-end post-breakdown. ‘Taxon’ ups the pace, pairing a lively step with seismic charges of bass, before ‘Fluke’ finally delivers a coup de grâce of mind-altering gurgles and guttural throbs.
This is Mauoq at his finest — the Italian’s signature blend of shadowy, skewed and intoxicating sounds turned up to eleven.
